Swedish Royal Wedding Souvenirs Hit the Shelves
The first souvenirs to mark the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling have gone on sale.
The current souvenir hot-cake is a ‘Victoria and Daniel’ dish towel, flying out the doors of Swedish stores and off of the internet store Kitsch Sweden. The towel features an image of the engaged pair from the engagement press conference, surrounded by flowers and a dove carrying two rings.
A spokesperson for the Gävle Design Forum, Malin Rydberg, told Arbetar Bladet that people buying the towel aren’t planning on using them – “they don’t want to wipe up things with Daniel and Victoria.” Rydberg said that many of the towels were being purchased as gifts for mother-in-laws.
And with still plenty of time to go before full wedding fever hits Sweden, sales from wedding souvenirs are set to skyrocket into the billions of Swedish Kroner. Svensk Handel, a Swedish business association, has estimated that around 2.5billion SEK (approximately $226.8 million Euro) will be amassed from souvenirs prior to the June 19, 2010 nuptuals.
