Dutch Royals Visit Queen Juliana’s Exposition

On Saturday, queen Beatrix accompanied by most of her family, visited the exposition ‘100 years Juliana’ at palace Het Loo in Apeldoorn. The queen should have opened the exposition on Queen’s day, directly after the historical parade. However, the historical parade ended in a tragedy and the rest of the programme was cancelled.

The exhibition is organised to mark the 100th birthday of queen Juliana and shows her life while using various objects like her cradle, her wedding dress and more. Official portraits and photographs are also shown. During the visit the queen and other members of the royal family also met the people who organised queen’s day in Apeldoorn. Usually this meeting takes place on the day itself too, but like the exhibition and the defilé it got cancelled.

Apart from the queen, all the other members who participated on Queen’s Day were present. Only prince Friso and princess Aimée were unable to attend. The latter is in an advanced stage of her pregnancy, which is probably the reason for her absence. According to mayor Tom de Graaf of Apeldoorn, it was on initiative of the queen that the family visited the exhibition: ‘I didn’t think they would still come’, he commented to the Algemeen Dagblad.
