Prince Harry in New York – Day 2

Prince Harry spent his second and final day in New York doing more fun events than on Friday, where he laid a wreath at Ground Zero and met with war veterans.

Saturday however saw him mingle with Harlem students and participate in the sport of kings – polo.

In the morning, Prince Harry went up to Harlem with fellow royal Prince Seeiso of Lesotho to the Harlem Children’s Zone. The project offers free programs and classes to low-income children. Harry spent some time chatting with the students.

A 10-year-old girl sitting at a desk covered with drawing paper and colored markers gave Harry a picture.

“Is this for me?” Harry asked as he accepted it. Pointing to the desk and pens, he then asked, “You find yourself very lucky to have all this?” When she nodded, he replied “Good.”

After the tour of Harlem, Prince Harry geared up for an afternoon of polo. The Prince participated at the 2nd Annual Veuve Clicquot Manhattan Polo Classic on Governor’s Island, which benefited his charity, Sentebale.

Before playing, Prince Harry gave a speech about the reason for setting up Sentebale (pronounced Sen-TEE-bah-LAY) with Prince Seeiso of Lesotho.

“Prince Seeiso and I both lost our mothers when we were very young. We set up Sentebale in their memory, and because my mother loved this city, it makes this occasion all the more poignant for me.”

“I won’t bore you with statistics, but please believe me when I say that Lesotho is a mere microcosm of what is so wonderful, but also so tragic about Africa today.

“This beautiful kingdom has been ravaged by HIV/AIDS and poverty, leaving thousands of children without their parents.”

After that, the Prince went out to play polo.

Members of New York’s high society turned out to see Harry, as well as several celebrities. They included Madonna, Kate Hudson, LL Cool J, Chloe Sevigny and Veronica Webb.

Prince Harry played against famed Argentinian polo player Nacho Figueras. For most of the match, Harry’s team was winning, but then a tie ensued. Luckily, Harry helped break that tie to give his team the winning trophy.

All in all, Prince Harry seemed to have had a great time in New York, and even told reporters he hoped to come back.

He also responded to the accusations that he is the wilder son of the Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana.

“I don’t know what the image is of me. There is always the image that’s been given to me, but people have their own opinions, it’s the media that likes to stamp on the image which isn’t really me.”
