Princess Aiko Celebrates 22nd Birthday

The Imperial Household Agency of Japan has released new portraits of Princess Aiko, The Princess Toshi on occasion of her 22nd birthday today. The birthday photos were taken one week ago, on November 24th at the Archives and Mausolea Department Building in Tokyo. The Princess is looking through the oldest still extant manuscript of the “Hyakunin Isshu”, a collection of a hundred poems by as many different poets from the Muromachi period. The only daughter of the Emperor and Empress of Japan is currently a fourth-year student at Gakushuin University.
