Dutch State Visit to South Africa – Day Two

On the second day of the state visit, today Thursday October 20, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima were officially welcomed by the President of the South African Republic, Cyril Ramaphosa, in a ceremony held in the courtyard of the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
The King and the President inspected the guard of honour and the national anthems were played. Inside the building took place a meeting at the presence of the Dutch delegation and the South African Ministers. Following the meeting took place the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of education between the South African Minister for Higher Education and Training and the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science.
At lunchtime the President hosted a lunch for the Royal Couple.
In the afternoon the King and the Queen paid a visit to Freedom Park, “a cultural institution housing a museum and a memorial dedicated to chronicling and honouring the many who contributed to South Africa’s liberation”. The Royal Couple laid a wreath at the Memorial to those killed in the South African Wars, World War I, World War II and also during the apartheid era. They also visited the “Wall of Names”, a memorial with a list of the names of those killed in the South African Wars, World War I, World War II as well as during the apartheid era.
The second day ended with a musical and dance performance hosted by the King and the Queen in honor of South African President Ramaphosa.
