Spanish Monarchs Host European Heads of Government in Granada

Today the King and Queen of Spain received European government leaders in Granada. At the Alhambra palace they hosted a dinner for 50 heads of state or government and the leaders of the European institutions. As Spain holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, it organised summit for the European Political Community. The EPC  is an  intergovernmental forum for unscripted political and strategic discussions about the future of Europe, established in 2022 after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Ahead of the dinner King Felipe and Queen Letizia invited their guests to a Flamenco Show in the Nasrid Gardens of the Alhambra palace.

Among the heads of state or government that were welcomed by King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia were president Sarkozy of France, president Zelensky of Ukraine, Belarus opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and president of the European Commision Ursula von der Leyen.

President Zelensky was received in an audience with the King. The president stated: “I thank King Felipe, the Royal Family of Spain and the entire Spanish people for their continued support of Ukraine. We appreciate the assistance provided by Spain since the first days of the full-scale invasion of the aggressor state in Ukraine’s struggle for our common European values.”
