Swedish King Celebrates Golden Jubilee

King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden is celebrating his golden jubilee today. He is the first Swedish king to achieve this milestone.

Although the jubilee is celebrated throughout the year, yesterday the main events started. The King organised attended an opera and organised a private dinner for family, friends and for other Scandinavian royals. Among them his cousin Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway and the Danish Crown Prince and Crown Princess. Queen Anne Marie of Greece also attended the events.

Today there was a Te Deum and a balcony appearance of the royal family. The King was surrounded by his wife, his eldest daughter Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Car Philip, Princess Sofia, Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill. Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar also attended the festivities. This was followed by a gala dinner in the Royal Palace of Stockholm.
