Prince Daniel Turns 50

Prince Daniel of Sweden is celebrating his 50th birthday today. His birthday falls on the same day that his father-in-law, King Carl XVI Gustav, is celebrating his golden jubilee as King.

Prince Daniel was born as Olof Daniel Westling was born on 15 September 1973 to Olle Westling and Ewa Westling (née Westring) at Örebro Hospital, the same day King Carl XVI Gustav ascended the throne. In 2010 he married Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden. The couple has two children: Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.

Among other things the birthday was marked by the programme ‘Prince Daniel 50 år’ on the channel SVT. The Swedish court also released some new portraits of the Prince.
