Spanish King and Queen Begin State Visit to Angola

Their Majesties King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain started today, Tuesday February 7, their first state visit to Angola.
In the morning the King and the Queen, accompanied by the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tète António, paid their respect to the Agostinho Neto memorial, a monument dedicated to the former President died in 1979.
At noon the Royal Couple was officially welcomed by the President of the Republic of Angola, Joao Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço and the First Lady, Ana Afonso Dias in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace. The National Anthems were played and the King and the President inspected the troops.
Inside the Palace, the King and the President had a meeting while the Queen and the First Lady were reunited with a group of women leaders from various sectors of Angolan society to discuss about education and empowerment. Then, following the exchange of decorations and the signing of the Memoranda of Understanding on sports, industry 4.0 and diplomatic schools, the President of and the First Lady hosted a private lunch for the Royal Couple.
In the afternoon the King and the Queen went to the headquarte of the
Banco Económico to attend two events: the first one was a presentation focused on the International University of Cuanz which was inaugurated in 2021 and promoted by the Fundación Universitaria Iberoamericana (FUNIBER); the second event was the official opening of a Joan Mirò’s exhibition titled “El Cántico del Sol y las Maravillas Acrostáticas” that displays works from the private collection of the Catalan painter.
In the evening the Royal Couple attended a reception with the Spanish community living in Angola.
