Upon the arrival in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, the Queen was welcomed by Abdul Momen, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.
Afterwards the Queen went on field visit. The first stop was at the Fakir Apparels Ltd, a clothing manufacturing factory located in Narayanganj, in the southeast of the capital. The women employed in this factory participated in women’s empowerment initiatives by the UN International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The Queen met with the employees and toured the factory.
Then Queen Mathilde, in Dhaka’s Khilgaon area, paid a visit to an Ability Based Accelerated Learning Centre which is supported by UNICEF. This centre aims to provide classes “to students ages 8 to 14 at learning centers with flexible hours to accomodate those who may have to work”. The Queen met with the young students and was informed about their lives and education following the Coronavirus pandemic.
