Belgian State Visit to Lithuania: Day Two

Today, Tuesday October 25, Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde started their second day in Lithuania by attending a meeting held at the Vilnius Town Hall with Belgian and Lithuanian companies along with the Lithuanian President, Gitanas Nausėda and his wife, Diana Nausediene. Following the meeting took place a e high level business meeting titled: «Transition to a sustainable economy» and focused on renewable energies, energy efficiency, sustainable building materials and digitalisation .
Afterwards the Royal Couple paid a visit to the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology, a scientific research institution established in 2010. In this center, where 5,000 researchers work and more than 20,000 students study, “universities, start-ups and tech companies are settling to develop innovative activities and create synergies”.
Then the King and the Queen visited the Life Sciences Center of the University of Vilnius, a center that works in the field of biotechnology, biochemistry and biosciences.
At lunchtime the Royal Couple, along with the Presidential Couple, attended a luncheon hosted by Viktorija ČMILYTĖ-NIELSEN, Speaker of the Seimas, the parliament of Lithuania.
Following the lunch, the King and the Queen, accompanied by the President and the First Lady, toured the Old Town of Vilnius which is UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.
They also visited the Church of St. Theresa, the Orthodox Church and Monastery of the Holy Spirit and the St. Michael’s Church Heritage Museum.
Later the Royal Couple, along with the Presidential Couple, paid a visit to the Vilnius University to met wit thw students. Topics of the meeting were: sustainable development, climate change, education.
In late afternoon the King and the Queen hosted a concert and reception at the Grand Concert Hall of the Philharmonic Institute of Vilnius in honour of the Lithuanian President, Gitanas Nausėda and his wife, Diana Nausediene. They attended a concert held by the Belgian National Orchestra and the orchestra of the Royal Theatre of La Monnaie.
