Queen Máxima’s Working Visit to United States: Last Day – Houston

On Friday September 9, Her Majesty Queen Máxima completed her working visit to United States by visiting Houston, Texas.
In the morning the Queen was officially welcomed by Sylvester Turner, Mayor of Houston, at the City Hall. During the visit at the City Hall the Queen attended a meeting focused “on ways to protect the city from flooding” and then she was present at the signing of an agreement between Houston and Rotterdam to further “Houston’s collaboration with the Netherlands on urban resilience”.
Later Queen Maxima took a boat trip on the Buffalo Bayou during which she was informed about Houston’s flood defenses. Following the boat trip the Queen attended a conversation about coastal protection with American and Dutch CEOs at the Astros Minute Maid Stadium.
Then the Queen paid a visit to the MD Anderson Cancer Center, the largest cancer center in the United States. Queen Maxima toured the center, was informed about innovative cancer treatments and met with some children who are currently in treatment at the center.
Afterwards the Queen was present at a meeting organized by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the U.S and focused on “the economic ties and shared societal challenges between the Netherlands and Houston”. Among the present were American and Dutch CEOs.
The working visit ended with a reception held at the Museum of Fine Arts.
