Queen Máxima’s Working Visit to United States: Day Three – Austin

Her Majesty Queen Máxima continued her working visit to United States, on Thursday September 8, in Austin, Texas. In the morning the Queen was officially welcomed by Governor Greg Abbott and his wife Cecilia Abbott at the historic Governor’s Mansion. During a meeting Governor Abbot, John B. Scott, Texas Secretary of State and the Queen discussed with about “the close economic ties between the Netherlands and Texas”.
Then Queen Maxima was received at Austin City Hall by the Mayor, Steve Adler. Following the reception at the City Hall, the Queen took a bike ride to the Austin public library.
Afterwards the Queen paid a visit to the Capital Factory innovation center, a “center of gravity for entrepreneurs in Texas” and then attended a seminar focused on innovation and digitization for future-proof healthcare.
Later Queen Maxima visited the headquarter of Hogg Foundation for Mental Health, a foundation established in 1940 that works “to strengthen conditions that support mental health and eliminate conditions that harm mental health.” Topic of the visit were mental health challenges that impact on young people.
The third day of the working visit ended at the Austin FC stadium. The Queen toured the stadium and was present at the signing of a cooperation contract Austin FC and the Dutch Football Club PSV Eindhoven.
During the third day of the working visit arrived the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Queen Máxima wanted to remember the Queen saying: “The King, Princess Beatrix and I deeply sympathize with them. We are grateful for all that Queen Elizabeth has done. With tireless energy and dedication, she has served her people for the past seventy years”, adding that “I can think of no better way to honor her than by following her example in our work”.
