Crown Princess Mary’s Working Visit to Greenland Begins

Today, Tuesday August 23, Crown Princess Mary started a two-day working visit to Greenland to take part in several activities focused on the Crown Princess’s work as chairman of the Mary Foundation and as president of the WWF World Nature Fund.
Upon the arrival in Nuuk, the capital city of Greenland, the Crown Princess paid a visit to a primary school. Following a meeting with students and teachers, the Crown Princess, along with ten children, moved to the beach to collect rubbish and plastic waste, an activity organized by the WWF World Nature Fund to “raise awareness about the importance of looking after nature and the environment”. Back at school, the Crown Princess and the children sorted out the rubbish and the plastic waste.
Then the Crown Princess, as chairman of the Mary Foundation, paid a visit to the Children’s and Youth Center Mælkebøtten, “a combination of a creative activity center and shelter as well as a crisis center for children”. The center, established in 2004 with a DKK 1 million donation made by the Crown Prince Couple, aims to “improve conditions for neglected children and young people, so as to prevent further neglect”. At the center, Crown Princess Mary toured the creative workshops where the children carry out different activities.
