Dutch State Visit to Austria – Day Two

Today, Tuesday June 28, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima started their second day in Austria by visiting the cultural center, Kulturhaus Brotfabrik, along with the President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen and the First Lady, Doris Schmidauer. This cultural center aims to promote integration through several projects and currently is helping Ukrainian refugees. During the visit the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple met with the volunteers and the Ukrainian refugees to talk about social integration and they also took part in a cooking class.
Then the King and the Queen, accompanied by the Presidential Couple, toured the Sonnwendviertel district near the Vienna Central Station. This district is focused on future-proof construction and liveable. From there the Royal Couple and the Presidential Couple took a tram ride to the city center where they paid a visit to the Austrian National Library, Austria’s largest library with more than 3.9 million books and also collections of manuscripts, incunabula, music autographs, photos, maps and globes. The King, the Queen, the President and the First Lady toured the library accompanied by Johanna Rachinger, DIrector General of the Austrian National Library.
At lunchtime King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima attended a luncheon held at the Federal Chancellery and hosted by Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer and his wife Katharina Nehammer.
In the afternoon the King and the Queen met with the Dutch community living in Austria.
The second day ended with a concert hosted by King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima for President Van der Bellen and the First Lady. At the concert, held at the Konzerthaus in Vienna, performed the “Nederlands Kamerkoor”, a professional vocal ensemble that belongs to the chamber choir genre.
