Prince Hubertus Weds American In Coburg

Hereditary prince Hubertus of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha married the American investment banker Kelly Jeanne Rondestvedt this weekend in Coburg, Germany. The couple was married in a civil ceremony on 21 May. On friday night there was a party with a German-American thee in a tent net to Castle Callenberg, the residence of the dukes of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

On saturday 23 May at 12 PM the religious ceremony started at the Moritzkirche in Coburg. The bride was escorted to the aisle by her father, who wore the white uniform of an officer in the US Navy. The bride, who was all smiles during the entire day, wore no tiara but a stunning diamond necklace that once belonged to the duchess of Albany (daughter-in-law of Queen Victoria). After the ceremony the newlyweds went in an open carriage to Castle Callenberg, in Coburg, where they had dinner with their 480 guests. The wedding cake was 11 stories high and was decorated with roses made of marzipan.

Among the royal guests at the wedding were the king and queen of Sweden, princess Astrid of Belgium and her husband Archduke Lorenz, and from the UK came Lord Nicholas Windsor (youngest son of the duke and duchess of Kent) came with his wife lady Paola and their son Albert. But many royals from non-reigning dynasties attended the wedding too, among them king Simeon II and queen Margarita of Bulgaria, with their son prince Constantin and his wife princess Maria. The king’s sister princess Marie-Louise also attended the wedding. From Bavaria came Duke Franz, prince Poldi, princess Ursula and prince Manuel with his wife Anna while the Prussian royals were represented by prince Georg-Friedrich. Other German guests were prince Fürst Alexander and Fürstin Nadja of Schaumburg-Lippe, princess Edda of Anhalt and prince Andreas of Leiningen, who came with his wife princess Alexandra, a sister of prince Ernst-August of Hanover.
