Queen Máxima in Senegal: June 15-16

After a two-day working visit to the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, Her Majesty Queen Máxima  landed at the airport of Dakar, in Senegal on tuesday June 14. She was there for a two-day working visit as a special advocate of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for inclusive finance for development.
The Queen began the first day in Senegal with “various partners and delegation members”.
Then Queen Maxima started with the field visits and the first stop was in a market in the east of Dakar where she visited several shops and met with entrepreneurs that work with the help of SUDPAY, a startup that aims to offer “mobility solutions, multi-channel payment programs and particularly service platforms and the collection of financial resources adapted to African realities”.
The next stop was a visit to local farmers who work assisted by myAgro, a platform that helps farmers to save and plan for the future by using a mobile layaway platform. The Queen also paid a visit to the myAgro company and met with its founder and CEO, Anushka Ratnayake.
The last field visit for Queen Maxima was in a farm started by Mame Fatim Gueye, a former lecturer at Cheikh Anta Diop University. To start the farm Mame Fatim Gueye was assisted by the Compagnie Nationale D’Assurance Agricole du Sénégal (CNAAS), “an insurance company specializing in the coverage of agricultural risks”.
Back in the capital, the Queen met with Mamadou Diop, vice-governor, of the Banque Centrale des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (BCEAO) and then attended an inclusive fintech roundtable meeting.
On Thuersday June 16, Queen Maxima started the second and last day in Senegal by meeting with Minister of Livestock and Animal Production Aly Saleh Diop. Then, at the Ministry of Digital Economy and Telecommunications, the Queen met with Minister Yankhoba Diatara and attended a meeting focused on digitization, the promotion of fintech, the inclusion and empowerment of rural women.
Afterwards Queen Maxima moved to the Ministry of Finance and Budget for a consultation with Minister Abdoulaye Daouda Diallo followed by a meeting with several ministers, members of the Banque Centrale des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (BCEAO), the regulatory authority for telecommunications and postal services, the Association of Insurers of Senegal and the Consumers’ Association.
Later at the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Cooperation the Queen met with Minister Amadou Hott to discuss about financial inclusion, the digitalization of payment systems and agricultural value chains and the energy transition.
Then at the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Family, Gender and Child Protection, Queen Maxima met with Minister Ndèye Saly Diop Dieng to discuss about “access to financial services for everyone and especially women, people with disabilities and disadvantaged people”.
After a lunch break the Queen continued her meeting at the Ministry of Microfinance and Social Economy where she was received by Minister Zahra Iyane Thiam to discuss about finance for micro-, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs)
Queen Maxima ended the working visit by meeting the President of Senegal, Macky Sall, at the Presidential palace in Dakar. Following the meeting took place a press conference.
