Last day in Congo for King Philippe and Queen Mathilde

On Sunday June 12, for sixth and last day of the official visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde moved to Bukavu, capital of the province of South Kivu in the east of the country.
Upon the arrival at the airport the Royal Couple was welcomed by Théo Ngwabidje Kasi, Governor of the province, Prime Minister Jean Michel Sama Lukonde and members of the government.
Then the King and the Queen paid a visit to the “Hôpital Général of Panzi” where they met with Doctor Denis Mukwege, gynecologist and physician Director of the Panzi General Hospital. The hospital, “beyond regular medical care, is specializes in gynecological care for victims of rape and sexual violence”. Doctor Mukwege is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and also a “human rights defender and doctor specializing in the support and treatment of women victims of sexual violence, particularly in the context of armed conflict”.
The last event in Congo was a visit to the “Institut International
d’Agriculture Tropicale”, “a non-profit institution
that generates agricultural innovations to meet Africa’s most pressing challenges of hunger, malnutrition, poverty, and natural resource degradation”.
