Princess Madeleine Turns 40

Her Royal Highness Princess Madeleine today turns forty years old. The Princess, younger child of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden and Queen Silvia, was born at Drottningholm Castle on June 10, 1982. She has two siblings, Crown Princess Victoria (born in 1977) and Prince Carl Philip (born in 1979). The Princess was baptized at The Royal Palace Church on August 31, 1982 and her godparents were Princess Benedict of Denmark, Prince Andreas von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha, Princess Christina, Mrs. Magnuson and Mr. Walter L. Sommerlath.
After graduatin in 2001, the Princess enrolled at Stockholm University where she studied art history, ethnology and history and received her Bachelor of Philosophy degree in the winter of 2006.
The Princess, during her studies, was active in the work of the World Childhood Foundation, an organization founded by the Queen.
Currently she is a member of Childhood’s Swedish board an honorary Board member of Childhood USA’s board and Vice President of Honor of the World Childhood Foundation.
On June 8 2013, Princess Madeleine married Christopher O’Neill in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace. They have three children, Princess Leonore (born in 2014), Prince Nicolas (born in 2015) and Princess Adrienne (born in 2018).
