Belgian Official Visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo – Day Three: Kinshasa

Today, Thursday June 9, Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians started the third day in Congo by visiting the Beach Ngobila market where they met with Congolese women that are clothing and fabrics dealers. First Lady Denise Nyakeru was present as well.
Then the Royal Couple paid a visit to the “Institut National de Recherche Biomedicale”, a biomedical research facility that has been collaborating with the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp (IMT) since 2002 and with universities in Flanders and Wallonia. Along with the Belgian delegation, the King and the Queen toured the facility accompanied by Dr Muyembe, director of the Institute.
In the afternoon, the Royal Couple with the Belgian delegation and President Tshisekedi visited the Academie des Beaux-Arts. During the visit they took part in four round tables focused on “the empowerment of women, the participation of women in political life, sexual violence and reproductive health”. Then they toured the studio of the Academy where the works were on display and met with young artists.
It was the last event in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. From tomorrow the official visit will move to Lubumbashi, in the south of the country.
