Queen Letizia’s Co-Operation Trip to Mauritania

Her Majesty Queen Letizia, on Tuesday May 31, arrived to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania for a three-day visit accompanied by the Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Pilar Cancela and members of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). Upon the arrival at the airport of Nouakchott, the capital, the Queen was welcomed by the First Lady of Mauritania, Mariem Fadel Dah.
On Wednesday June 1st the Queen attended a meeting at the Technical Cooperation Office in Nouakchott along with the Secretary of State for International Cooperation, the ambassador of Spain in Mauritania, Miriam Álvarez de la Rosa, the director of Cooperation with Africa and Asia, Carmen Magariños, and the general coordinator of the OTC in Mauritania, Rita Santos. Then Queen Letizia, accompanied by the First Lady, paid a visit to the logistics platform of the National Society for the Distribution of Frozen Fish (SNDP) where she was received by the Director General of the SNDP, Mr. Mohamed Cherif Ahmed. There the Queen was informed about how this center works for the distribution of frozen fish. The Spanish Cooperation Fish Distribution Project cooperates with this center.
Afterwards Queen Letizia paid a visit to the Comprehensive Care Project for Victims of Gender Violence headquarter and she was informed about their projects that include police, medical, psychological and judicial care. Then the Queen visited the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Nouakchott to know about a project developed by the Spanish Cooperation focused on the training of specialist doctors.
Later the Queen visited at the “Promopêche” project run by the Spanish Cooperation for the promotion of artisanal fishing in protected natural areas of Mauritania.
The last event was at the residence of the Embassy of Spain in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania where Queen Letizia maet with the Spanish community involved with the Cooperation.
On Thursday June 2 the Queen paid a visit to the “Queen Letizia Agricultural Innovation Project”, a project that “promotes food security and employment for families in the area”. The Queen “toured the greenhouse, its seedbeds and plants transplant, the head of irrigation and fertilizer of the drip system and the plot, with its plantations in progress, work and training” and she unveiled a commemorative plaque.
Then, in the capital, Nouakchott, Queen Letizia visited Emergency Center (SAMU), a center that is equipped for emergencies and also trains specialized personnel. Later Queen Letizia, along with the First Lady of Mauritania, Mariem Fadel Dah, paid a visit to Zayed Center, a center that takes care of children with autism.
The visit ended with a working lunch hosted by the First Lady in honor of the Queen.
