Trooping the Colour Kicks off Jubilee Weekend

Today the streets of London were taken over by the annual Trooping the Colour parade, celebrating te official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II ánd kickstarting the four-day celebration to commemorate her 70-year reign.

At precisely 11am the royal party will arrived at Horse Guards parade on Whitehall to make the inspection of the Guards and the Household Cavalry. The working members of the Royal Family went on horse and in carriages to Whithall. In the first carriage were seated the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duchess of Cambridge and the three Cambridge children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The second carriage transported the Earl and Countess of Wessex and their children Lady Louise and the Viscount Severn. In the last carriage were the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Vice-Admiral Sir Timothy Lawrence.

From the windows of Withehall other family members witnessed the event, among them the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Princess Beatrice and her husband, and the children and grandchildren of the Princess Royal.

The Queen made her first and only appearance of the day on the balcony of Buckingham Palace, in the company of her first cousin, the Duke of Kent. Se awaited the retrurn of the carriages from Whitehall. The parade ended with the balcony appearance of working members of the royal family and the Cambride and Wessex children.

The Queen has with ‘great reluctance’ pulled out of Friday’s Platinum Jubilee thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral tomorrow, Buckingham Palace announced tonight.

The 96-year-old monarch, who has been suffering with mobility issues, is said to have experienced ‘discomfort’ during today’s events.
