Crown Princess Mary continued her working visit to Bangladesh. On Monday April 26, she visited Cox’s Bazar district, in the southern part of Bangladesh where there is “the world’s largest refugee settlement with over 700,000 Rohingya refugees from Myanmar”.
The Crown Princess, along with Minister for Development Cooperation Flemming Møller Mortensen, visited the villages where the refugees are settled and met with some members of the Rohingya community, families and children. During the visit Crown Princess Mary and the Minister were informed about education, women empowerment, the climate situation in Bangladesh, the consequence of climate change and all the challenges faced by the community.
The Crown Princess was also informed about the environmental restoration activities conducted by the international humanitarian displacement organisation, Danish Refugee Council (DRC), and took part in a planting tree ceremony, which is part of the organisation initiative “to prevent hill sliding and protect the nature at the camp”.
