King Felipe and Queen Letizia Delivers Cervantes Prize 2021

On Friday April 22, Their Majesties King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended the presentation of the 2021 Miguel de Cervantes Literature Prize at the University of Alcala de Henares in Madrid.
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Ayuso, the Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta and the mayor of Alcalá de Henares, Javier Rodríguez were among the present.
This year’s laureate is the Uruguayan writer, Cristina Peri Rossi.
Peri Rossi was awarded by the jury for “recognizing in her the trajectory of one of the great literary vocations of our time and the scope of a writer capable of expressing her talent in a plurality of genres.
The writer wasn’t able to attend the ceremony and the prize medal was handed out to her friend, the actress Cecilia Roth.
The Cervantes Prize is awarded “to any author whose literary work is written entirely, or in essential part, in Spanish” and consists with a prize of €125,000.
