Dutch Royals Attend The Four Freedom Awards 2022

Today, Thursday April 21, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, along with Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix attended at the presentation of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedom Awards 2022 at the Nieuwe Kerk in Middelburg. The Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte was present as well.
The International Four Freedom Awards went to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, leader of the democratic movement in Belarus.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya received the award “as a leader of the peaceful resistance against the oppressive regime in Belarus and as a prominent campaigner for political and civil freedom in her country”.
The Freedom of Speech Award went to thr Vietnamese singer and dissident Mai Khoi; the Freedom of Worship Award went to Lian Gogali from Indonesia, founder and President of the Mosintuwu Institute; the Freedom from Want Award went to Kenyan human rights activist Nice Nailantei Leng’ete; the Freedom from Fear Award went tothe non-governmental LGBTI+ organization ÜniKuir from Turkey.
The Franklin D. Roosevelt Four Freedom Awards is an annual award presented to individuals or organizations who have demonstrated committment for the Four Freedoms which Franklin Roosevelt proclaimed in his historic speech to the US Congress on January 6, 1941: Freedom of speech and expression, Freedom of worship, Freedom from want, Freedom from fear.
The Four Freedom Awards is an initiative of the Franklin and Elanor Roosevelt Institute and it was established in New York in 1950.
