Royal Tour of The Caribbean: Belize – Day Three
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge started their third and last day in Belize in the Chiquibul Forest. There the Royal couple visited Caracol, a stunning and iconic ancient Mayan archaeological site built 3,000 years ago by the Maya civilisation.
The Duke and the Duchess, along with an archeologist, toured the ancient site, were informed about its history and also climbed he stairs up to the Sky palace, the top of the structure.
Then the Royal couple paid a visit to the British Army Training Support Unit’s (BATSUB) jungle training facility in the forest reserve. During the visit the soldiers explained to them the survival techniques taught to British soldiers.
In the evening the Duke and the Duchess attended a reception held at the Mayan ruins at Cahal Pech. The reception was hosted by the Governor General of Belize in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
In his speech the Duke said that: “Catherine and I are delighted to be here with you tonight in Belize at the beginning of our first official visit to the Caribbean”, adding that he was “honored to convey the very warmest wishes from my grandmother, The Queen of Belize, on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee”.
The Royal Tour of the Carribean will continue in Jamaica.
