Royal Tour of The Caribbean: Belize – Day Two
After yesterday’s arrival and the meeting with the Prime Minister, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge started today, Sunday March 20, the visit in Belize as first stop of their Platinum Jubilee Tour of The Caribbean.
The first visit was at the Maya cacao farm and chocolate factory in the coastal town of Hopkins. The Duke and the Duchess toured the farm, were informed about how cocoa is farmed and the chocolate-making process. They also tried to grind some of the cocoa beans and tasted some fresh cocoa.
Afterwards the Royal couple moved to the village of Hopkins to meet with the Garifuna community at a cultural centre. There they were greeted by schoolchildren and residents, had a demonstration of Garifuna culture, tasted local food, danced with members of the local community and planted a tree.
The last event of the day was a meeting with conservationists on the beach of Hopkins village. The Duke and the Duchess were informed about the efforts made by Belize in the field of marine conservation.
