British Royal Family at Commonwealth Day Service
Today, Monday March 14, members of the British Royal Family were present at the multi-faith service held at Westminster Abbey to celebrate Commonwealth Day. Queen Elizabeth, Head of the Commonwealth, following Covid recovery, didn’t attend the service and was represented by Prince Charles, Prince of Wales. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Princess Alexandra were present as well.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was among the present and Emeli Sande and Mica Paris gave special musical performances.
At the service were also present members of the British government, diplomats, faith leaders and more than 600 school children and young people.
In a message released to mark this special day, the Queen stated: “In this year of my Platinum Jubilee, it has given me pleasure to renew the promise I made in 1947, that my life will always be devoted in service”.
Commonwealth Day is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations often held on the second Monday in March. It celebrates the Commonwealth of Nations, a political association of 54 member states, founded in 1926 under the Balfour Declaration. Each year the celebrations have a different theme, of which this year’s was “Delivering a Common Future”.
