Willem-Alexander and Máxima Celebrate Twenty Years of Marriage
Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima celebrated today, February 2nd, their 20th wedding anniversary.
The engagement of the then Crown Prince Willem-Alexander to Máxima Zorreguieta was announced on March 30, 2001, by Queen Beatrix, and Prince Claus.
The couple married on Saturday February 2nd in both civil and religious ceremonies. The civil ceremony was held in the Beurs van Berlage by the then mayor of Amsterdam, Job Cohen.
The religious ceremony took place in the Nieuwe Kerk aan de Dam in Amsterdam at the presence of family, friends, royal guests and authorities from home and abroad. After the religious ceremony the newlyweds toured the city centre of Amsterdam with Golden Coach and then, returned to the Royal Palace, they appeared on the balcony.
Queen Máxima wore a bespoked mikado silk ivory gown with cowl neckline, three-quarter sleeves and a five-meter train by Valentino Couture. The bridal gown was paired with a 16 metre silk tulle veil with polka dots and decorated by hand with floral motifs and tendrils of lace. Queen Maxima wore a tiara combined by the base of the Pearl Button Tiara and five of the diamond stars that belonged to Queen Emma.
King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima have three daughters: Princess Catharina-Amalia 18, Princess Alexia 16 and Princess Ariane 14.
