Princess Laurentien Attends National Reading Breakfast Days

Today, Wednesday January 26, Princess Laurentien was present at the launch of the 19th edition of the National Reading Breakfast Days at the Integral Child Center in Uithoorn, in the province of North Holland.
At the presence of toddlers and pupils, the Princess read “But first I caught a monster”, a story about “a boy who invents monsters that he has to catch before going to sleep”. The book, written by Tjibbe Veldkamp and illustrated by Kees de Boer, was elected Picture Book of the Year 2022 by a jury of Dutch librarians, booksellers and teachers.
The National Reading Days is an initiative of the Reading Foundation and organized by the Foundation for Collective Promotion of the Dutch Book (CPNB). The campaign aims to encourage the reading of children who don’t read yet.
The Reading & Writing Foundation is an initiative of Princess Laurentien and it was launched on May 27, 2004. Since January 2014, the Princess is Honorary Chairman of the Foundation. The Foundation’s goal is to prevent and reduce illiteracy in the Netherlands and internationally.
Started on January 26, the National Reading Days will last until Saturday February 5.
During National Reading Days, across The Netherlands, at nurseries, kindergartens, libraries and schools, will take place many events in order to promote the reading. At this event participate politicians, mayors, athletes, columnists, actresses, presenters, singers, rappers, footballers.
