Belgian King and Queen Visit the Province of Flemish Brabant

On Wednesday November 17, Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde paid a visit to the Province of Flemish Brabant.
The first stop was in the municipality of Tienen where the Royal Couple paid a visit to the Psychiatric Clinic Alexians. The clinic takes care of people with eating disorders, people with a psychological vulnerability and also elderly people.
The Royal Couple visited the Food Recovery Department that currently housed 35 young people and young adults from 15 years of age who are suffering from eating disorders. During the visit they met with a multidisciplinary team of carers and patients and where informed about the work of the facility.
Then the King and the Queen paid a visit to the headquarter of SESVanderHave Innovation Centre, “a leading global player in the sugar beet seed sector”. Accompanied by Rob van Tetering, CEO of the company, the Royal Couple toured the plant and were informed about the role of the company in the sugar market and they also assisted at the creation of a new sugar variety.
Afterwards, to mark the 900th anniversary of the Norbertine Order. King Philippe and Queen Mathilde visited the Abbey of Averbode, in the municipality Scherpenheuvel-Zichem. Upon their arrival at the abbey, the Royal Couple was welcomed by the provincial governor of Flemish Brabant, Jan Spooren, and the mayor of Scherpenheuvel-Zichem, Manu Claes and the Abbot Marc Fierens who guided them for a tour of the abbey. The King and the Queen visited the monastery building, the chapter house, the sacristy to the abbey church and the choir area and signed the “Golden Book” of the abbey.
The visit ended in the municipality of Diest where, after a reception at the Town Hall, the Royal Couple greeted the people gathered outside at the Grote Markt.
