Dutch King and Queen in Abu Dhabi and Dubai: November 2-3

On the occasion of the opening of the World Expo 2020 Dubai, Their Majesty King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima paid a two-day visit in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Upon their arrival in Abu Dhabi, on Tuesday November 2, the Royal Couple met with Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the Al Shati Palace and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
On Wednesday November 3, the King and the Queen moved to Dubai to visit the company Pure Harvest.
Pure Harvest is a tech-enabled agribusiness based in the UAE and a “recognized leader in sustainable agriculture, growing year-round, pesticide-free, fresh fruits & vegetables in the Middle East”.
The Royal Couple toured the greenhouse.
In the afternoon King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima officially opened the Dutch pavillion at the World Expo 2020 exhibition along with the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, Tom De Bruijn.
The Dutch pavillion “showcases Dutch expertise in the areas of water, energy and food” and is focused on sustainability. The King and the Queen visited the Dutch pavillion as well as the UAE pavilion accompanied by representatives of the United Arab Emirates.
Opened on October 1st, the World Expo 2020 Dubai will last until March 31, 2022. A World Expo is a large international exhibition of a wide variety of industrial, scientific, and cultural items that are on display and takes place every five years. Last year was postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
