Queen Maxima in New York: September 21-23

In her role as special advocate of the United Nations Secretary General for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA), Queen Maxima was in New York on September 21-23 to attend several meetings.
On Wednesday September 22, the Queen had a meeting with Mary Ellen Iskenderian, CEO of Women’s World Banking. Topic of the meeting was women’s digital financial inclusion efforts in Africa. Then the Queen was reunited with Achim Steiner, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to discuss about further collaboration to promote financial inclusion and financial health for the world’s most vulnerable people.
Later Queen Maxima met with Michael Miebach, CEO of Mastercard, and Michael Froman, Vice Chairman and President of Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth. The meeting was focused on the role of the private sector on financial health and economic inclusion.
Then the Queen was reunited with Marina Sereni, the Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs. Topics of the meetings were: financial Inclusion to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), recover from the pandemic and support to small/medium enterprises, women, youth, digitalization.
Queen Maxima also met with representatives from Indonesia, Senegal, Vietnam, Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire to discuss about the efforts to advance financial inclusion.
Yesterday, Thursday September 23, the Queen was reunited with UN Secretary-General António Guterres to present her 2021 Annual Report in her capacity as the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA).
The report stressed “how financial inclusion is more important than ever as societies continue to deal with the social and economic impacts caused by the COVID-19 crisis.”
Queen Maxima also met with members of the “Group of Friends of Financial Inclusion” and held bilateral talks with government representatives from countries with which the Queen works in the field of financial inclusion.
