Dutch Regional Visit to Salland

Yesterday, Tuesday September 14, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima paid a regional visit to the southern part of Salland.
The first stop was in the municipality of Deventer, in the province of Overijssel, were the Royal Couple was welcomed by the King’s Commissioner of the province, Andries Heidema and Ron Konig, mayor of Deventer.
In Deventer the King and the Queen walked through the neighborhood of Havenkwartier that, since 2010, has been redeveloped. They met with entrepreneurs and those involved with the development of the city.
Then the Royal Couple visited the factory of Royal Auping, a company that produces mattress. The company is famous for being the first manufacturer in the world to market a fully circular mattress and during the visit the King and the Queen were informed about sustainably made mattresses.
Afterward King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima moved to Heeten, in the municipality of Raalte, where they met with its resident to be informed about an initiative made up by them in 2018: “a citizen budget in which they help determine where and how municipal money is spent within their own environment”.
Later the Royal Couple went to the municipality of Olst-Wijhe where they paid a visit to the farm “De Riet”, located along the IJssel river. The farm, built in 1882, was renovated in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable way. The King and the Queen met with the owners of the farm and were informed about how sustainability is part of the farm’s work.
The visit ended at the IJssel Biennale, an outdoor exhibition 120-kilometre-long along the IJssel river. The exhibition is focused on the impact of climate change on the landscape of the IJssel valley.
