Silver Carnations Presented by Princess Beatrix

Today, Friday June 4, Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix presented the 2021 Silver Carnations of the Prince Bernhard Culture Fund in a ceremony held at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.
This year’s Carnations went to Barend van Benthem “for his great knowledge of Dutch table silver”, Janine and Joop van den Ende for their commitment to theatre, music and visual arts for years and Johan Veenstra for his work in the field of literature.
During the ceremony were also awarded the laureates of 2020 who couldn’t receive the award last year due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The laureates of 2020 were: Els Blokker-Verwer for her work in the field of visual arts and music, Kees Bos “for his contribution to historical cartography and thus the landscape of the future” and Albert Haar for his commitment in cultural life in Drenthe.
The Prince Bernhard Culture Fund was formed in 1940 by the Princess’s father, Prince Bernhard. Since 1950 the awards are presented annually to individuals who have voluntarily worked to benefit the culture and nature of the Netherlands. Prince Bernhard, presented the awards each year until his 2004 death and since 2005 Princess Beatrix hands out the awards.
