Dutch Royals attend ”Appeltjes van Oranje 2021”
Yesterday, Tuesday June 1st, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima attended the ”Appeltjes van Oranje 2021” award ceremony at Palace Nooreinde in The Hague. The theme of this year’s award was “Mental Strength”, focused on mental health.
The winners of “Appeltjes van Oranje 2021” were: “Ixta Noa” from from Arnhem, a foundation that supports people with a psychological vulnerability; “Stichting Vriendendiensten” from Deventer, “a regional, independent, client-driven organization that is committed to people with a psychological vulnerability”; “Expertise Center Education Care”, from Saba, an organization that supports children with disabilities and their parents.
The prize consists of a bronze sculpture designed by Princess Beatrix and 15,000 euros.
In her speech the Queen stated the importance of the work done by these organizations, saying that “You help people with psychological problems to regain their mental resilience, so that they can fully participate in society. You help them to become resilient. That work is so necessary”. Queen Máxima also praised the winners for their “quality and working method”.
The “Appeltjes van Oranje” started in 2003 as an annual award of the “Oranje Fonds”. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima are patrons of The Oranje Fonds that was created in 2002 as a gift for the couple on occasion of their wedding.
