Dutch Royal Family Participate in NL DOET 2021

Over the weekend the members of the Dutch Royal Family took part in the National Volunteer Day, NL DOET. On Friday May 28, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima helped in Oegstgeest at the cultural center Cultuurhuis De Paulus.
Cultuurhuis De Paulus is a church that since 2007 it is also a place were are organized “activities in the field of spirituality, art and culture in the broad sense”. The King was involved in the renovation of the garden and he also took care of the wooden walls and the paneling in the great church hall. Meanwhile the Queen was involved in the cleaning of the entrance of the culture house with the help of a high-pressure sprayer. Talking briefly with the press, King Willem-Alexander said that “the corona time that has shown how important volunteering is”.
On Saturday May 29 Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix helped at the Thomashuis in Maartensdijk, a residential facility for people with intellectual disabilities. The Princess was busy in the garden of the facility potting petunias and dahlias along with supervisors of the residents and the residents themselves.
Around 5500 volunteers helped in this edition of NL DOET.
The National Volunteer Day is usually organized in March, last year was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak and this year took place in May due to the coronavirus situation.
NL DOET is organized by “The Oranje Fund”. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are patrons of the organisation. “The Orange Fund” was created in 2002.
