Prince Charles has tested positive for COVID-19

The Prince of Wales has tested positive for Coronavirus, or COVID-19, as was announced by Buckingham Palace on Wednesday morning. He is only showing mild symptoms of the disease that has already caused over 400 deaths in the UK and a pandemic around the world.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla are self-isolating at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, the royal family’s summer residence. The testing was performed in an NHS run facility in Aberdeenshire.

A spokesperson said “it is not possible to ascertain from whom the prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks”, however Prince Charles met Prince Albert of Monaco after they both attended a WaterAid event in London, and Prince Albert has since also tested positive for COVID-19.

The spokesperson also said that 71 year-old Charles was still working and in good spirits. His mother, the Queen, is also in good health and special care is being taken to ensure that she and Prince Philip, who are 93 and 98 respectively, will be as safe from the virus as possible, which has been deadliest amongst the elderly.
