Royals postpone engagements due to Coronavirus

The Queen, as well as the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, have postponed their upcoming engagements due to the current Coronavirus pandemic.

The Queen was due to visit Cheshire and Camden on March 19 and March 26 respectively. There have been over 700 confirmed cases of the virus in the UK with 21 deaths. A newborn baby from London is the youngest confirmed sufferer of Coronavirus in the world. Her mother is also infected.

A week earlier, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall also announced that they were going to postpone their spring tour of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus and Jordan.

A statement read “audiences will continue as usual” but “other events will be reviewed on an ongoing basis in line with the appropriate advice”. The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall’s trip might be replaced with engagements at home in the UK, depending on advice given to his team of staff and advisors.

In Denmark, Queen Margrethe has also postponed several upcoming engagements and Luxembourg’s Grand Ducal house has also decided to cancel the National Day gala, and the celebrations will end with the earlier Te Deum. Prince Albert of Monaco also mentioned Coronavirus in his birthday interview and extended a message of support to the Monegasque people, where there has been one confirmed case. The Norwegian royal court has also cancelled all engagements, and the Swedish royal court have also made amends to their calendar.
