Duke and Duchess of Cambridge thank Irish royal watchers for success of recent tour

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge posted a touching post on Instagram thanking the people of Ireland for meeting them on their three day tour of the country from March 3 – 6. The post included some cards and letters from children they met during the tour, and a thank you message in English and Gaelic.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Cambridges touched down at Dublin Airport where they went to meet the President, Michael D Higgins at his residence before they visited the Irish Guinness Storehouse, where he toasted the guests in Gaelic by saying “sláinte“. During the meeting with President Higgins, it is reported that the couple discussed the impact Brexit will have on the country, with the important issue of the Irish border. On the first day, the couple also visited Prime Minister Leo Varadkar and also the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin.

On the second day, the Cambridges visited Jigsaw, the national centre for young people’s mental health in Ireland. They then went to County Kildare, where they visited the Savannah House, a social justice charity and then to County Meath to visit Teagasc Research Farm.

On the third and final day, the Cambridges found themselves in Galway where they visited the local Gaelic Athletic Association Club, and also got to see previews of entertainment acts that were being showcased at Galway Community Circus. Then, they paid a visit to Hoops, a basketball charity and finished the day off by going to see Tig Coili, a traditional Irish pub where they also had a walkabout meeting members of the public.
