Queen Mathilde and Princess Elisabeth Continue the Working Visit to Kenya

Queen Mathilde and Princess Elisabeth started the second day of their working visit in Kenya today, Wednesday June 26, by visiting the Amref Dagoretti Child Protection & Development Centre center in Dagoretti, in the western of Nairobi.
The centre was founded in 1999 as an initiative by young volunteers affiliated to Amref Health Africa, the largest African-led international organization on the continent established in 1957.
The Dagoretti Child Protection and Development Centre aims to rescue “children living in vulnerable situations and run high risks of ending up in the streets. The facility has provided a safe space where children in street situations can get food, health care, counselling, remedial education and talent development”.
During the visit the Queen and the Princess met with the staff of the center and young mums with their babies.
Queen Mathilde also had a meeting with UNICEF Kenya Representative Maniza Zaman, UNICEF President of Board Ronald Steisel and George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary of Education in the Cabinet of Kenya to discuss about thr progress to improve access to quality of education in the country.
In the afternoon Queen Mathilde and Princess Elisabeth paid a visit to the ACAKORO Football Academy. The Academy, supported by UNICEF, is a football project founded in 2013 as an Austrian-Kenyan co-operation project that “focuses on the integral development of the child through sport. The most disadvantaged children also receive educational support. Acakoro supports more than 150 children, including four boy teams and two girl teams”.
The Queen and the Princess met and played with the children and handed out the jerseys of the Belgian National Football Team.
Later Queen Mathilde was received at State House by the First Lady of Kenya, Margaret Kenyatta. The meeting was focused on the ways of increasing access to education and healthcare services, especially for disadvantaged communities and also the First Lady informed the Queen about all the efforts ongoing in the country in the fields of healthcare services and education.
