Queen Mathilde and Princess Elisabeth Begin a Working Visit to Kenya

As Honorary President of UNICEF Belgium, Her Majesty Queen Mathilde started today, Tuesday June 25, a three-day visit to Kenya.
In this UNICEF mission to Kenya, the Queen is accompanied for the first time by her daughter, Princess Elisabeth.
The purpose of the mission is to raise awareness about the problems of education and children in difficult circumstances.
Arrived yesterday in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, the Queen and the Princess began the mission today in Kakuma to visit a refugee camp.
The Kakuma refugee camp is located in northern Kenya, near the border with South Sudan and it is the second largest camp in the country, with nearly 185,000 refugees living there and 60% are under 18 years old. There are Refugees from Ethiopia, Somalia, Congo, Sudan and especially from South Sudan.
The Queen and the Princess paid a visit to the Kalobeyei Early Childhood Center and the Kalobeyei Primary School set up by UNICEF and UNHCR near the Kakuma refugee camp attended by children from 2.5 to 9 year olds.
The childhood center take care of vulnerable children while the primary school gives access to early qualitative education and therapeutic activities.
During the visit Queen Mathilde and Princess Elisabeth talked and played with the children.
The Queen and the Princess also visited a program supported by UNICEF and Lutheran World Federation (LWF) that helps young mothers to finish their studies and develop life skills.
