Dutch State Visit to Ireland: Day Two

The second day of the state visit, on Thursday June 13, started with a reception held by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Paul McAluiffe.
In the Mansion House, official residence of the Lord Mayor, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima signed the town’s guest book and the King gave a speech that praised Dublin for being “a great attraction for people from all over the world, and certainly also from the Netherlands”.
Afterwards the Royal Couple visited the Trinity College Dublin and the University Library. They toured the Long Room that houses 200,000 of the Library’s oldest books. During the visit the King and the Queen also viewd the Fagel collection, consisting of 11,000 books, purchased from the Dutch Fagel family in 1802.
At noon the Royal Couple met with the Dutch community who live and work in Ireland.
In the afternoon the King and the Queen were received by the Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar at the Government Buildings.
Then at the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland the Royal Couple attended a presentation focused on Dutch-Irish cooperation in the field of knowledge innovation and sustainability in agriculture.
In the evening the King and the Queen offered a ballet performance to Irish authorities and guests. The performance was held in the Bord Gáis Energy Theater where the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) danced modern ballets.
