£1m stolen Bonaparte engagement ring found

On April 7, it was reported that an engagement ring worth a million pounds was stolen from the car of Prince Jean-Christophe Napoléon after his fiancée, Countess Olympia von Arco-Zinneberg, had left the ring in her bag in the car.

The incident happened after they were due to meet their parents at the Hotel d’Aubusson in the sixth arrondissement of Paris. Their Mercedes GL was unlocked though the couple were watching it from nearby.

According to reports, none of the CCTV cameras showed the car, though after the couple had reported the theft to the police, it was discovered that one of Countess Olympia’s credit cards had been used at a local sushi restaurant minutes earlier. Upon phoning the restaurant, the couple found the suspect, who has been described as a 30 year-old Egyptian man, had just left the restaurant and was already known to the police on counts of theft.

The ring comes from the diadem of Empress Eugénie and was given to Countess Olympia, the daughter of Archduchess Maria Beatrice of Austria-Este, when she was engaged to Prince Jean-Christophe last month.
