Belgian State Visit to South Korea: Day Three
Today, Wednesday March 27, Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde started their third day in South Korea with a separate program.
In the morning Queen Mathilde attended a seminar titled “Innovative solutions for circular economy, sustainable mobility and climate change” held at the Global Campus of Ghent University. At the seminar were present the former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Belgian and Korean students.
Then the Queen paid a visit to the Smart City Operation Center in Songdo, built at 30 kilometres southwest of Seoul. The Smart City was developed on 1500 acres and “It is a city in perfect balance, combining the ideal mix of residential, cultural, business, retail, and recreational environments”.
In the meantime King Philippe attended a Korea-Belgium business forum followed by a symposium focused on life science and healthcare.
At lunchtime the Queen had a working lunch focused on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
In the afternoon Queen Mathilde paid a visit to the Korea’s UNICEF Korea Committee to discuss about the impact of climate change on children.
King Philippe, after a business lunch, had a meeting with Korean social entrepreneurs and was informed about “Root Impact”, a non profit organization that supports and accompanies social entrepreneurs.
Afterwards the King paid a visit to the headquarter of the Seoul Taekwondo Federation where he viewed a taekwondo demonstration and was invited to do some exercises.
In the evening the Royal Couple hosted a concert and a reception for the President Moon Jae-in and the First Lady Kim Jung-sook.
