Belgian State Visit to South Korea: Day Two

Today, Tuesday March 26, Belgium’s King Philippe and Queen Mathilde started their second day in South Korea with a wreath laying ceremony held at the National Cemetery. After the ceremony the Royal Couple paid a visit to the Korean War Memorial along with the Belgian delegation, Korean Ministers and veterans.
Then the King and the Queen were officially welcomed by the President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in and the First Lady Kim Jung-sook in a ceremony held at the Grand Garden of Cheong Wa Dae, the official residence.
The King inspected the guard of honour and the national anthems were played.
Afterwards King Philippe had a summit with the President while Queen Mathilde met with the First Lady.
The morning continued with a separate program for the Royal Couple.
King Philippe went to the Seoul National University to attend a seminar titled “Challenges of developing artificial intelligence in the areas of human health” followed by a lunch. In the meantime Queen Mathilde paid a visit to the Korea National University of Arts–School of Music along with the First Lady. During the visit three students performed at the presence of the Queen and the First Lady.
The visit ended with a lunch.
In the afternoon the King paid a visit to the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea where he met with Moon Hee-sang, Speaker of the Assembly. The King also visited the exhibition “Belgium-Korea Relations in 10 archives”.
Then King Philippe went to the City Hall of Seoul where he was welcomed by Won-soon Park, Mayor of Seoul and attended a
Belgian-Korean symposium focused on mproving quality of life through smart cities. During the visit the King was awarded with the Honorary Citizenship of Seoul.
In the evening took place a state banquet.
In his speech the King said “In the Land of the Morning Calm, there is constant change, slowly but surely. Based on a rich history and age-old traditions, Korea resolutely looks to the future”.
