Queen Mathilde ’s Working Visit to Mozambique Begins

As an Advocate for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, today Monday February 4, Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of The Belgians started a four-day working visit to Mozambique.
Upon her arrival in the capital Maputo, the Queen met with the Minister of Economy and Finance, Adriano Maleiane, the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Action, Cidália Chaúque Oliveira and the representatives of a non-governmental organization.
Then Queen Mathilde paid a visit to Socio-Cultural Grassroots Association Horizonte Azul at Santo Antonio Community School. At her arrival the Queen was greeted by students who performed a traditional warrior dance.
The association “work for the promotion and protection of Human Rights, Empowerment and Gender Equality in particular of orphans and vulnerable children, adolescents and young people” and aims to raise awareness of violence against women.
The Horizonte Azul association is part of UN Women’s Global Flagship Programme Initiative, “Safe Cities and Safe Public Spaces”, a “programme that develops, implements, and evaluates tools, policies and comprehensive approaches on the prevention of and response to sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence against women and girls across different settings”.
In the evening Queen Mathilde moved to Bilene, in the Province of Gaza where Stella da Graça Pinto Novo Zeca, Governor of the Province, hosted a dinner.
