On October 9, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge participated in their first joint engagement since the birth of their son, Prince Louis, in April. The couple attended the Global Ministerial Mental Health Summit ahead of World Mental Health Day at County Hall in Southbank, London.

The Cambridges met Dario Vargas, a Columbian artist who painted an abstract painting which he showed to William and Kate, which represented the concept of loneliness being a cause of mental health issues.

The United for Global Mental Health organisation had a stand at the event, which William and Kate visited before they left. Dixon Chibanda started the organisation in Zimbabwe, which aims to teach elderly women to become lay health workers.

Chibanda invited the couple to sit on a “friendship bench” as grandmothers are very significant members of the community in Zimbabwe, where they have been trained to offer therapy sessions on benches.
