Queen Maxima at the Opening of the GPFI Workshop

Today, Monday September 10, Her Majesty Queen Maxima, as Special Advocate of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for inclusive financing for development (UNSGSA) and honorary chairman of the GPFI, was present at the opening of the High Level Workshop on the Financial Inclusion of Forcibly Displaced Persons (FDPs) of the Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) of the G20.

The workshop, held at the Spanish Court in The Hague, was focused on the importance of good access to financial services for people who are forced to leave their home.
It is estimated that 68.5 million people worldwide were forced to leave their homes in 2017 due to war and violence.

At the workshop were present representatives of academia and the private sector, experts from financial technology startups, policymakers, humanitarian and development agencies and also Prince Jaime de Bourbon de Parme, in his new capacity as special advisor to the UN refugee organization UNHCR.

The Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) is an inclusive platform for all G20 countries.

The G20 is an international forum consisting of the 19 largest national economies and the European Union. The G20 aims to contribute to global economic growth and development.

The Queen is Honorary Patron of GPFI since June 2011.
