Princess Laurentien At Literacy Week Opening
Today, Monday September 3, in her role as honorary chairwoman of the Reading and Writing Foundation, Princess Laurentien officially launched this year’s Literacy Week during the morning show “Your Day Is Good” of Jeroen van Inkel at NPO Radio 5.
Literacy Week takes place from 3 to 9 September. Across the country nearly 1,000 libraries, municipalities, businesses, hospitals, schools and 70,000 people will be involved in activities that aims to promote reading and writing.
The Reading & Writing Foundation was launched on May 27, 2004 as an initiative of Princess Laurentien. The purpose is to prevent and reduce illiteracy in the Netherlands. On March 24, 2009, Princess Laurentien was appointed as Special Envoy on Literacy for UNESCO.
